It’s Shouko Komi’s first day at the prestigious Itan Private High School, and she has already risen to the status of the school’s Madonna. “Why use style over substance, when you can use style to fake substance”.Among the mediocre passengers of the coal-driven Hype Train, there will be always one damsel in distress who is allowed the first-class cabin, her appearance so alluring that it completely makes her neighbors forget they’re her origins and ignore her actual personality. This damsel is also known as Waifu, and her superficial feature has been used as a marketing bait numerous times. Comedy is a great way of rendering relaxation to our minds. For me, it’s a way of taking a break from my proclivity to serious tone shows. However, writing comedy is also a form of art that not everyone can master.
A legendary forgotten studio that once animated Pokemon, the childhood of every one of us and Berserk, the most underrated television series in all of humanity, bestowed us with another modern classic, Odd Taxi this year. However, there is one unworthy show that is stealing the spotlight instead.
STORY 3/10 Komi Can’t Communicate
The story is about this Mary Sue who is suffering from Communication disorder (Remember Claude from GTA 3) but she is desperate to make at least 100 Friends. I expected the story to be like Silent Voice with great character development and exploration of themes on the disorders children suffer from. But instead, this show seems to exploit the disorder for comic relief and humor by using a Waifu bait.
The plot is so generic, predictable, and repetitive with no substance but just-style, which deteriorates further as the show progresses until even the style degrades in novelty. It uses the same formula with NO PROGRESSION whatsoever. Komi Can’t Communicate 2021

Humor writing is like the Battle of Stalingrad, any retreating joke that fails to follow the punchline gets killed and is not funny anymore. A well-structured joke has a punchline, which is the big reveal or the climax in the context of writing. If the setup of the joke fails, the next joke should pick up and follow through the punchline or it becomes meaningless and unfunny.
In the case of Komi-san the jokes, extend the punchline instead of delivering it at the right moment. The jokes are repetitive, boring, and sometimes complete bullshit with no logic. Komi Can’t Communicate

Apart from our Mary Sue who is the living vibrator our MC, Tadano is a generic self-insert harem Protagonist. He’s shy, the target of bullies. He’s a loser and the most average guy in the school.
Najimi is kind of a foil to Tadano as he/she has an extrovert personality but is still trash.
Himiko is literally one of the worst and cringiest in the entire show, her masochist and submissive personality made me skip entire episodes.
Every time a new character is introduced. They’re all limited to only one personality archetype. So they’re all forgettable as they’re NEVER SEEN AGAIN. Komi Can’t Communicate
At least Kaguya Sama and Aria has some decent character development, this show is just pure Mary Sue waifu marketing bait, neither substance nor proper style.

This is just your Average Predictable RomCom bullshit with even worse repetitive jokes with no substance and an unnecessarily extended punchline. This is the PINNACLE OF WAIFU BAIT SHOW that people hype up only because of Komi and her wholesomeness. Komi Can’t Communicate

The curse was finally broken!
The most anticipated and universally loved iyashike (feel good ) and romance anime is here. And it is greater than ever! but sadly Netflix jail happened. Komi Can’t Communicate 2021
Before I come to the Netflix jail bit allow me to review the anime as made by OLM Komi Can’t Communicate 2021
Storywise it’s a Slice of life to the fundamental level,(I know manga has romance but I am pretty sure anime won’t reach that point). The story if any is focused on character interaction and/or events, but that is actually a strength of komi san because the characters in komi san are so quirky and interesting that more than make p for the lack of story. As for the Art, The opening 30 seconds of the first episode make it very clear that OL means business, the art is very gorgeous it has the Movie level 1:1 recreation of the Japanese city and school and it is perfect for some slice of life escapism. animation is weirdly good for a slice of life anime just like dragon maid. The characters are probably the strongest point of Komi-san, except for the plain as fuck Tadano everyone is super quirky and interesting. I won’t go into spoiler territory but I feel characters are probably the only reason komi san manga has about 360 chapters. Komi Can’t Communicate
Music is good the Op is very nice and captures the joy and anxiety of high school life very well. Ed is mostly dedicated to komi and I love it more than the Op. The effects in the episodes are also good, not distracting but always add to the scene. Komi Can’t Communicate 2021
Now for the Netflix jail issue, it was probably the only reason I wanted to originally give this anime an 8 but then I realized it’s a Netflix problem, not OLM. Komi Can’t Communicate
Komi cant communicate duh, so she uses the blackboard to communicate with Tadano for the most part, Now most of us fans from outside Japan cannot read Japanese. I am not an engineer and even I know it is not very hard to provide extra text boxes for translation. Most of the conversation between komi and Tadano was unintelligible for all of us non-japanese.
Do not make the mistake of watching Netflix unless they fix this
Komi-san is a must-watch, basically, an anime with a movie budget and safely recommendable to all demographics since its totally wholesome with little to no drama, Komi Can’t Communicate However, I have to painfully agree that the Fansubs are better hence its better if you use … ahem .. ahem other websites to watch it since fans are clearly more passionate about komi san than Netflix seems to be

So, it has been some 5 odd years, and it finally gets an anime. Komi Can’t Communicate
If you had told me some while ago what I thought about Komi Can’t Communicate, I would have said that it is a mid manga that doesn’t deserve the praise it gets, because I have to be some kind of intelligent person pointing out how lack of character development in a gag manga must mean it is automatically bad.
It just exists to make people laugh at some dumb moments that could not possibly happen in reality, y’know, there isn’t really a need for it to be deep or anything of that kind. Komi Can’t Communicate
That is what the anime embellishes upon, a funny, slice of life comedy based on this girl who is misunderstood to some unbelievable degree. Wide variety of characters, sure, they may be forgettable as the series goes on, but it is this diversity that matches everything that revolves within the anime. Komi Can’t Communicate 2021
It is true that there isn’t more to this anime than what is already told thus far, but the consistency across the entire thing is something you have to praise, in addition to still being enjoyable to fans of today despite its lack of fresh remedies of its own monotonous nature. My Opinion
Yes it finally got an anime adaptation. After a long time we have an amazing slice of life anime. Since previous seasons we didn’t had any good Slice Of Life. But finally we got a blast. One of the best anime to come out this season.
Story 9
Well the story of the anime is quite good. It’s quite unique too. So good going in originality. And I liked the thing that the whole episode was not dedicated to a single thing by extending it for no reason. This is one of the reason the story is interesting as it is not unnecessarily extended. So I would give this anime a 9 in story.
Art 8
I see many people complaining about the art of the anime. And I agree the art and animation style of the anime is quite new. That’s one of the reason which makes this anime unique. The funny art style and animation fit perfectly with the main theme of the anime. And I really enjoyed it. So 8 in art & animation.
Sound 8
Well the music used in the anime helps a lot in relating to some of the scenario and characters in the anime. And it’s quite simple and relaxing. The opening & ending are also amazing they fit the theme of the anime. The OST’s played during anime were quite amazing too. So an 8 in sound for this anime.
Character 9
The character development in this anime is quite amazing considering the number of characters this anime has. Almost every character has been given the screen time & spotlight they deserved. The characters are really relatable too. So I would give it a 9 in character.
Enjoyment 9
Judging by all the points mentioned above. You might have a pretty good idea about will you enjoy this anime or not. I mentioned all the good things and bad things (if there where any) about the anime. I say you will definitely enjoy the anime. If we are talking about me I enjoyed this anime a lot.
Conclusion
Now coming to conclusion should you watch this? Now that thing totally depends on your choice if you are looking for a slice of life show this is one of the best thing you can get. I would give this anime an 8 overall.
