Anime World Trigger Season 3

In May 2014, an anime adaptation of World Trigger was announced to start airing in October of the same year. The series is produced by Toei Animation and was broadcast on TV Asahi from October 5, 2014, to April 3, 2016. The series is directed by Mitsuru Hongo with a series composition by Hiroyuki Yoshino. Toshihisa Kaiya and Hitomi Tsuruta are the character designers and animation directors, and the music is composed by Kenji Kawai.

The series was slated to run for 50 episodes but ended up having 73 episodes. In summer 2015, the World Trigger Summer Festival 2015 event announced World Trigger: Isekai Kara no Tōbōsha, a brand new series with an original story not presented in the World Trigger manga, and with new characters and concepts. This “new series” actually ended up being the “Fugitive Arc” of the anime, which ran from Episodes 49 to 63.

During Jump Festa ’20, it was announced that the series would receive a second season, with the cast reprising their roles. Toei Animation is returning to produce the anime. Morio Hatano is the new series director, while the rest of the staff are reprising their roles. The second season aired on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation block from January 10 to April 4, 2021. The opening theme is “Force” by TXT, and the ending theme is “Mirai Eigō” (未来永劫, lit. “The Endless Future”) by Kami wa Saikoro o Furanai.

During Jump Festa ’21, it was announced that the series will receive a third season, with the second season airing for one cour (season). The third season premiered on October 9, 2021. The opening theme is “Time Factor” (タイムファクターTaimu Fakutā) by Kami wa Saikoro o Furanai, and the ending theme is “Ungai Dōkei” (雲外憧憬, lit. “Yearning to Be Above the Clouds”) by Fantastic Youth.

In North America, Toei announced in July 2015 that they would be producing an English dub with Ocean Productions. The series began airing in the United States on Primo TV on January 16, 2017. The English dub became available on Crunchyroll on February 11, 2020. In September 2020, Crunchyroll announced a “home video and electronic sell-through distribution” partnership with Sentai Filmworks to distribute anime titles on home video.

The series was released on Blu-ray on June 8, 2021. In October 2021, it was announced the English dub of season 2 will be released in late 2021. Texas-based voice actor Ian Sinclair will join the dub cast as Gatlin.

World Trigger Season 3 Trivia

  • Breaking News Interruption: The sixth episode of the second season of the anime was pre-empted for coverage of the 2021 Fukushima earthquake.
  • Creator’s Favorite: Ashihara has admitted that Kitora is one of his favorites, personality-wise and also being one of the easiest characters to draw.
  • The Danza: Yūichi Jin voiced by Yūichi Nakamura.
  • Fan Nickname:
    • Satoken for Satori Ken, used by Ashihara himself (who may have actually been the originator). He’s never called this In-Universe, though.

    • Godzuma, for Azuma.
    • Idiot A-Rank Trio for Izumi, Yoneya, and Midorikawa.
  • Flip-Flop of God: It hasn’t happened yet, but on the Border Enlistment Period graph, Ashihara admits that he might end up changing his mind on some of those enlistment times.
  • I Knew It!:
    • Knowing that Suzunari-1 had some kind of special plan up their sleeve, a number of fans correctly guessed, upon seeing everyone’s placements and Taichi’s movements, that it was to overload the opponent operators by turning the lights on and off.
    • Once the photo of Old Border was shown, fans quickly deduced which one was Shinnote  and which one was Mogaminote , which was ultimately confirmed when the Vol. 19 extras listed names with the photo.
    • Many people predicted that with Hiura moving away from Mikado City, Izuho would be recruited to replace her.
    • Some fans (particularly in the Japanese fandom) suspected that Karasuma’s previous squad (before joining Tamakoma) was Tachikawa Squad. Volume 22 extras later confirmed it.

  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: The series once ran a contest for fans to submit taglines, with the winning ones used in official posters and the paper bands around physical volumes.
  • Portmanteau Series Nickname: Watori, or WorTri.
  • Series Hiatus: The series went on a 2-year hiatus from late 2016 – late 2018, due to the author’s health.
  • Spoiled by the Merchandise: When the manga returned from hiatus, the anime studio drew celebratory art—including Hyuse in his Tamakoma uniform, an event that had yet to happen in the anime.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Ken Satori was originally intended to be a beautiful guy that ladies would swoon over for, but it ended up as a Comedic Relief since Arashiyama already covered that role.
    • Mitsuru Tokieda was also meant to be more conventionally attractive, but Ashihara grew fond of his sleepy eyes looks.
  • Word of God: Ashihara frequently answers questions on Twitter that are then compiled into the volume releases. There’s also Border Briefing File, though in the afterword he mentions that fans should interpret the info in whatever way they find most enjoyable. Also, this exchange:
Q: Did Tachikawa-san’s eyes become grid-shaped because he burned the mesh for grilling his beloved mochi into his eyes?

Synopsis World Trigger Season 3

In Mikado City (三門市Mikado-shi) (280,000 inhabitants), a “gate” to a different world suddenly opens one day. Monsters called “Neighbors” (近界民ネイバーNeibā, lit. “Near-world people”) start appearing from the gate. Humans are overwhelmed at first when their weapons are found to be useless against Neighbors until a mysterious organization appears that is able to repel the Neighbors’ attacks.

The organization is called the National Defense Agency, or “Border”, and has appropriated the Neighbor technology called “Triggers”, which allows the user to channel internal energy called Trion and use it as a weapon or for other purposes. By activating a trigger, the body of users is replaced by a battle-body made of Trion which is stronger and more resistant.

Plot World Trigger Season 3

Four years later, people in Mikado City have grown used to the occasional battles with the Neighbors, and have returned more or less to their everyday lives. The border has become popular. One day, a mysterious white-haired student named Yūma Kuga (空閑 遊真Kuga Yūma) transfers to the local school. Kuga is actually a strong humanoid Neighbor, a fact that he wants to hide from Border.

In the school, he meets another student, Osamu Mikumo (三雲 修Mikumo Osamu), who is secretly a C-class Border trainee. Since Kuga is completely oblivious about life in Mikado City, it falls to Mikumo to guide him through it, and to prevent him from being discovered by Border. In book 5 he joins Border.

World Trigger Season 3

In the science fiction anime “World Trigger Season 3,” the community of a place known as Mikado City adjusts to life four years after a gate has opened to another world, allowing monsters and human-like people called “Neighbors” to arrive and attack. While they are initially helpless against the threat, a defense force known as the National Defense Agency, or Border, arrives to protect everyone, using Neighbor technology known as “Triggers.”

Triggers utilize Trion, energy that originates from inside the body, to strengthen the user and function as a weapon. A new culture develops as Mikado City gets used to the presence of Border and Neighbors, and soon enough many young men and women are vying for a spot at Border to train and fight.

The original manga series first started publication in 2013, written and illustrated by Daisuke Ashihara. In 2014, Toei Animation produced the first season of an anime adaptation of “World Trigger Season 3,” which covers around five different story arcs from the manga, consisting of 73 episodes. Some fans of the manga found the 2014 anime lacking, but it redeemed itself in early 2021 when a second season of “World Trigger Season 3” was released, consisting of 12 episodes.

The rise in quality is obvious and many fans appreciate the new season’s attention to detail, with a review on Anime News Network praising how “the largely new staff has revamped the color and design work for the better, along with a quantum leap forward in direction and storyboarding.”

World Trigger Season 3 Storyline:

The story of “World Trigger Season 3” follows Yūma as he becomes a part of Border, developing a solid group of dependable friends and learning to use his unique skills to help protect Mikado City. Yūma has a particularly difficult past, as his father sacrificed himself to make a Black Trigger for Yūma after the boy fell in battle and almost died. The Trion in the Black Trigger keeps him alive, and Yūma has a technological companion and protector known as Replica that follows him everywhere.

Osamu, Yūma, and the rest of the Tamakoma Second aim to practice and train to rise to A-rank, with the goal of gaining Border’s permission to visit the Neighbor world and take the fight to them, while also looking for a way to bring back Yūma’s father, if possible.

The beginning of World Trigger Season 3 will pick up where Season 2 left off, in the middle of the manga’s B-Rank Battles Arc, during which Yūma and the rest of Tamakoma Second fight against other Border agents for the chance to move up to A-rank. Throughout his time in Border, Yūma has developed strong relationships with the rest of Tamakoma Second and is intensely loyal to his friends, intent on protecting others against the Neighbors and stopping the fighting altogether.

World Trigger Season 3 there is the possibility that the anime may catch up to the manga in terms of story, so many fans wonder if there might be another anime-only story arc coming up as well.

Characters World Trigger Season 3:

“World Trigger Season 3” centers around four main characters, Osamu Mikumo, Yūma Kuga, Chika Amatori, and Yūichi Jin. Osamu is a kind and honest high school student who joins Border as a way to protect his friend Chika and others from the Neighbors. He initially isn’t very skilled at combat or weapons training, but he is determined, and Osamu eventually becomes Captain of the Tamakoma Second unit of Border.

By his side is Chika, who despite Osamu’s efforts to protect her, doesn’t need any help and is just as capable at fighting off the Neighbors. Although rather timid, Chika is a skilled sniper who aims to rise up the ranks at Border.

Yūma is a new student at Osamu and Chika’s school at the beginning of “World Trigger” Season 1. Short and with shocking white hair, Yūma is actually a Neighbor who comes to Mikado City through the gate, a secret he attempts to keep as long as possible. Yūma soon becomes a highly valuable member of Border, possessing one of the Black Triggers, a special weapon that the organization can use to fight off more vicious Neighbors.

Filling out the main cast is also Yūichi, a member of the Tamakoma Branch whose seemingly laidback demeanor hides a clever mind. Despite knowing the danger of Neighbors and experiencing it firsthand, Yūichi is able to understand that not all Neighbors are like that, respecting and helping those like Yūma.

If you are a fan of World Trigger Season 3, then you owe it to yourself to watch this season. Much like the second season, this season’s animation is quite on point, which is great when you compare it to the animation of season 1. I would go as far as to say that it’s quite stellar, judging by the latest episode. The plot continues advancing forward with more rank wars, more great characters that help with world-building, and old characters that grow on you as time goes.

The sound fits well with the action and animation on display through the episodes aired so far. If there’s one way to sum things up, it would be that this is a must-watch season for any World Trigger fan due to the incredibly enjoyable experience!
